Saylor is a site that offers 300+ free online courses in a variety of subjects, at various levels, starting at K12, and working up to “Saylor University” level. Subjects range from English, math, and business development-rated subjects, such as customer service, and workplace skills. With some courses, you can gain course credit which can be transferred.
The Saylor Foundation (under its legal name, The Constitution Foundation) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. The Foundation was established in 1999 by Michael J. Saylor, the Chairman and CEO of the business intelligence company MicroStrategy, Inc. and the Foundation’s sole trustee.
Mr. Saylor created the Foundation because he had a very simple, very earnest, and very bold idea: Education should be free. As changes in technology have made the distribution of information easier, high-quality educational materials have become increasingly digital and readily accessible to anyone with an Internet connection.
Since 2008, the Foundation’s free education initiative (www.saylor.org) has focused on exploring the promise of the Internet to drive the cost of education to zero and expand access to quality open educational resources (OER). Toward this end, we have built over 300 free, self-paced, online courses, with many more on the way.
We hire credentialed educators to create course blueprints and to locate, vet, and organize OER materials into a structured and intuitive format. Our consulting professors also create original OER content and link to freely posted materials to fill in any gaps. Each course culminates with a final exam, and students receiving a passing grade can download a certificate of completion.
